  City of Bath Lions Club

Bath Lions Club was born out of the support of the Bristol Lions Club and was chartered on 6th May 1963. For some time, thanks to the generosity of Lion Bryan Jones, a club room was established in the basement of 23 Queen Square. The club was an early supporter of  the charity CLIC Sargent (For Children and Young People with Cancer), following a talk given to members by Bob Woodward the founder of CLIC. This connection has been maintained through to this present day. In the 1960′s and 1970′s a number of very successful cheese and wine parties were held; as was a two day steam engine rally. Support has continued for the Royal United Hospital with donations to the NICU appeal and on-going support for Combe Ward, which specialises in dementia, and also support for registered charity Research Institute for Older People, RICE. The Club Fund raising has taken many forms; collections at the pantomimes at the Theatre Royal, running Christmas grottos, and two recent successful golf days. The City of Bath Lions Club, in conjunction with Bath Rotary West, held concerts by Bath Light Operatic Group, which ran for eleven years, during this time over £27,000 was raised all for local charities. The club has always played its part internationally with emphasis placed on our sight programmes. In the year 2008 a decision was made to change the name to the City of Bath Lions Club. It  has not always been fund raising. For many years we provided transport for the Hillside Disabled Club; have taken young adults from the Ravers Street home to the recreational ground fireworks display. At Seville House Orphanage the menbers build a play area. From 28 August – 1 September Lions supported 2013 Special Olympics National Summer Games with  a number of our Bath members, together with Lions from the regional , acted as volunteers for the Special Olympics.
